Layer7 Acceptable Use Policy

This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") describes what you may and may not do with the Layer7 service. It is part of our Terms of Service, and the definitions there apply here too. "Layer7", "we", "us", and "our" mean Layer7 Technologies Inc.

We keep this policy short and plain on purpose. The core idea is simple: Layer7 exists to protect legitimate sites from attack. You may not use it to host abuse, to hide abuse, or to commit abuse against anyone else.

You are responsible for everything behind the domains you route through us, including what your own users do. If you let other people put content or run services behind your Layer7-protected domains, their actions are your responsibility under this policy.

Content you may not put behind Layer7

You may not use the Service to protect, deliver, or provide access to:

Child sexual abuse material. We have zero tolerance for this. We remove it on discovery, preserve what the law requires us to preserve, and report it to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and to law enforcement.
Content that is illegal where you or your users are, or that promotes or facilitates serious crime.
Malware, ransomware, spyware, or anything designed to damage or gain unauthorized access to systems, and phishing pages or other content built to deceive people into giving up credentials, money, or personal data.
Content that infringes someone else's copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property, once you know or should reasonably know that it does.
Fraudulent schemes, deceptive commerce, or content that exists mainly to defraud people.
Content that harasses, threatens, or incites violence against people, or that doxes them.

Ways you may not use the Service

Layer7 is a shield, not a weapon or a hiding place. You may not use it to:

Launch, amplify, or assist a denial-of-service attack or any other attack on a third party. This includes running booter or stresser services, botnet command-and-control, or any infrastructure whose purpose is to attack others, and putting such infrastructure behind our edge to conceal it.
Scan, probe, or test systems you do not own or have written permission to test.
Send spam, operate open mail relays, or run services primarily used to distribute unsolicited bulk messages.
Interfere with, overload, or try to break the Service itself, or attempt to get around our filtering, our rate of challenges, our clearance system, or any other control.
Resell or provide the Service to others as if it were your own, unless we have agreed to that in writing.
Benchmark or load-test through Layer7 against an origin that is not yours, or from a vantage point we have not authorized. If you want to test how Layer7 performs, test against your own origin and talk to us first.
Misrepresent who you are, take over an account that is not yours, or use the Service in a way that violates any law or the rights of others.

Security testing

We welcome security research done responsibly. If you find a vulnerability in Layer7 itself, tell us at support@l7.gg before disclosing it anywhere else, give us a reasonable chance to fix it, and do not access, change, or destroy data that is not yours in the course of your testing. Testing your own protected origin through the Service is fine. Testing anyone else's is not.

How we enforce this policy

When we learn of a possible violation, whether from our own systems, a report, or a legal request, we may investigate. We can remove or disable access to specific content, suspend or terminate the affected service or your whole account, and take whatever steps we reasonably think are needed to protect the Service, our other customers, and the public.

For most issues we will try to contact you first and give you a chance to put things right. For serious cases, such as content that is illegal on its face, an active attack being run through us, or anything that puts people at immediate risk, we may act right away and without notice.

We cooperate with law enforcement and respond to valid legal process. We do not, however, hand over customer data just because someone asks; we require a legal basis, and we tell affected customers where we are allowed to.

Because Layer7 is a pass-through proxy, we usually do not host the content ourselves; it lives on your origin. That means the fastest way to get abusive content taken down is often at the origin or its host, not at us. We will still act on our side, including cutting off protection for a service that violates this policy, and we will pass reports on to you as the operator.

Reporting abuse

If you believe a site or service protected by Layer7 is breaking this policy, email abuse@l7.gg. Please include the domain or URL, a short description of the problem, and any evidence you can share, such as timestamps or message headers. Reports about child sexual abuse material are treated as the highest priority.

Copyright and the DMCA

If you believe content behind a Layer7-protected domain infringes your copyright, you can send a notice to our designated agent. To be effective under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act, your notice needs to include: your physical or electronic signature; identification of the copyrighted work you say is infringed; identification of the material you say is infringing and enough detail for us to locate it, such as the URL; your contact details; a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorized; and a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or are authorized to act for the owner.

Send DMCA notices to abuse@l7.gg, addressed to the Copyright Agent, or by mail to Layer7 Technologies Inc., Copyright Agent, 1500 North Grant Street, Suite 429, Denver, CO 80302, USA.

Because we are usually a pass-through proxy rather than the host of the material, we will forward valid notices to the customer who operates the domain and, where appropriate, identify their hosting provider so you can reach the party that actually stores the content. We will act on our own side as our Terms and this policy allow.

Changes

We may update this policy as new kinds of abuse appear. The "last updated" date shows the current version, and material changes will be notified as described in our Terms of Service.
